Powder Room Pampers actors from the theatre show “Betrayal”

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

One of our beautiful Brides to be Simone (getting married in September this year) booked Powder stylists Jody and Sarah to look after some of the cast member for a pre launch photo shoot a few weeks ago.  Simone works with Queensland Theatre Company, and we are looking forward to spoiling Simone for her Wedding make up and hair.  We are travelling out to Simone on the day to look after Simone and her bridesmaids.  Simone met us when she booked for a special Occasion hair and make up last December.

We were pretty excited to meet, Sibylla Budd (from Secret Life of Us), Paul Bishop (from Blue Heelers) and Hugh Parker ( from Uk East Enders).

Sibylla arrived in New Farm straight off a flight and the girls had a about an hour to work their hair and make up magic.  We had a lovely time with them and are now excited looking forward to the show, which starts on Sept 6th thru to 9th October.

If you’d like to go to the play at the Cremorne Theatre, book NOW QTIX Ph: 136246 qldtheatreco.com.au.

‘Betrayal” is a play about lifelong friends Jerry and Robert, rivals in  the publishing world, but also rivals for the love of Robert’s wife Emma……can’t wait…anyway don’t you think Sibylla looks even more beautiful after some Powder pampering!

Planning your Wedding day hair and make up

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

Planning your Wedding day is one day that your want everything to be absolutely perfect! You are marrying the man of your dreams and you want him to see you as the most beautiful goddess on the earth!…Ok enough of the romantics…I think most brides really want to enhance their inner beauty….and that’s where we come in!

Yes, we are the professionals and are fully equipped with the most up to date make up brands, such as Laura Mercer, Mac, Nars to name a few, hair styling tools and techniques, but really it’s also about what makes you feel good.

Not having met you before means that we have a lot to chat about in your Pre Wedding trial.

Here are some little tips when planning your Wedding hair and make up trial.

*When trying on your dream dress, try looking at the dress with your hair up and hair down, veil on and try different positions when you are considering your Wedding day hairstyle.

*Are you going to be wearing hair accessories, fresh flowers (some flower are seasonal) or other jewellery.  Consider the length of the earrings that you will be wearing, and the hairstyle shape around the front of your face. Leanne from Lila designs is wonderful at helping brides choose their Wedding day hair accessories.

*Remember that a lot of photo’s are taken from front on, so make sure you love how you look from a front view.

*In choosing what to wear to your trial, choose a colour and neckline closest to your Wedding dress colour and shape, as strong colours can tend to effect the look of your finished make up.

*Try where possible to get a hair and make up trial on the same day to see the total look.

*Prepare your hair the day before the trial by shampooing twice and conditioning lightly, to ensure that your hair isn’t too soft for an upstyle trial.  However if your hair does tend to be oilier then freshly wash and dry on the morning of the trial. Please always feel free to call and discuss with a Powder Room stylist prior to the trial.

*If you are someone that really loves make up and would like to show your make up artist how you wear your make up, you may like to come to the trial with your make up on to help communicate what your like.

*Ask yourself not only what you like, but also what you don’t like when pre planning looks.

*Where possible try to bring magazine cuts outs of style choices to communicate the looks you may be considering.  Collect a collage of hair and make up styles that may suit your dress style and shape.  Choose hair style and make up looks that are similar to your hair, skin colour, face shape, style of Wedding etc.

*Please let your stylist know if you have any sensitivities and what your skin care regime is (as for example if you are using MD Formulations some foundations may not adhere to your skin as well as others).  Please also advise if you are on any medications that may effect your skin.

* It’s great to know colours of your bridesmaids dresses and flowers as well.

Last of all prepare to enjoy yourself, and let the pampering begin,we hope you are looking forward to a glass of bubbly and a little sweet indulgence from Cakes by Judy C.  Make sure you have planned a special night out with your gorgeous man or your BFF’s.

BTW check out our beautiful Powder Room touch up products at your trial, touching up is an essential part of the night.  Below is one of our latest shoots with Brisbane Headshots, and we love Peita’s look.  Powder Room Lips with Love lipstick “Two Hearts” and gloss “Pink Champagne”. Planning for your Wedding day Hair trial

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Planning your Wedding is so much about organisation and trying to fit it all in around work, family and of course getting fit to look like that super princess bride! Phewwww!!! Hard work!!

If your Wedding is soon, you will be thinking about your Wedding day trial. At the Powder Room we have had so many trials lately, and it got me to thinking that we could help you with a few tips!  When we meet with our brides, I can really see the excitement and the nervous energy as you realise that the day is close!!! You feel those butterflies in your stomach.  It is simply the most amazing time of your life, and we are so happy to be a part of your special day.

When planning your trial it seems that brides have more difficulty in choosing that perfect Wedding hairstyle, so we’d like to help make that easier for you! We are updating our gallery soon, so make sure you check out the latest hairstyle looks.

*What time of the year you are getting married, if the weather is warmer and you really want to make sure your style lasts all day and night, then choose an upstyle for longevity.

*Most of your professional photo’s are taken from a front on view, so make sure you still feel like yourself and that you are comfortable with how the front of your hair looks.

*Think also about what you don’t like as the process of elimination for a hairstyle choice, as is sometimes easier.

*What shape face do you have?  For example,if you have a long face don’t choose an upstyle with a long parting, choose a short parting and a style with a bit more width and softness, maybe a softly curled look.

*Are you wearing a veil?  If so where do you see your veil being placed?  If your veil is a heavy veil, it may weigh down a hairstyle, you may need to choose a hairstyle with padding support added to make sure the hairstyle holds if you remove the veil.

*try to have your trial at least 4-8 weeks before the day, in the few weeks before you are feeling a little more excitement jitters, that way you leave nothing to chance.

*Check the correct preparation of your hair before the trial.  Did you know if you are thinking of a curled hairstyle that if you have your hair straightened with irons prior to coming to your trial, then it can make your curls drop.  Also try to avoid using silicon based straightening products as they can tend to coat the hair.

*Wear a simple top without a collar as they can interfere with the back of the hairstyle, particularly if you choose a low look.
