The Powder Room is a buzz wondering what Kate Middleton is going to look like for her Wedding day! Most of us think that she is going to have her hair down in some way, as her hair is one of her most beautiful features! Thinking that a half up and had down look is a possibility.

Kate’s hair is being styled by her hairdresser James Pryce and there is a lot of talk about if she will be wearing a tiara or not. Camilla is keen for Kate to wear a tiara, and the Queen would like her to wear Diana’s tiara. Kate may wear flowers and break tradition. This is what we found showing a sneak peak of an idea of what James may have in mind for Kate’s hairstyle if she decided to go for an upstyle.

Sarah and Karen attended the Hillstone St Lucia Wedding showcase last Thursday night, and the girls were excited to meet so many new Brides to be!.  It’s so lovely to see the Groom’s to be as well… and the sparkling engagement rings, so pretty!

Lots of Asian Brides ask us “are you experienced in different culture Weddings hair and make up…and the answer is Yes, Yes Yes, we love our brides and are experienced in looking after different nationalities.  Minyen was such a beautiful Bride, Sarah and Sue looked after Minyen and we wanted to share these beautiful images, photographed by the talented Ben Clark. Minyen’s gorgeous side soft low style was created by using a hair padding to support the style.  Bar lash extensions really enhanced Minyen’s gorgeous eyes.  The girls all had airbrush make up to complete the flawless foundation look.  The Powder Room has a studio in New Farm and a Mobile service, as the girls travelled out to Minyen on the day to her home.

One lovely day a gorgeous bride called Aleisha was married on the 26th February ……Weddings really are a Fairytale event and it always excites me to see our Brides on their special day!  Aleisha’s photo’s from her Wedding day took away our breath!  Captured by the talented Jade and Matt at The Arched Window.  Her gorgeous Chantilly lace dress really was a Fab frock! Sarah and Sarah Jane created the gorgeous hair and make up on Aleisha’s Wedding party on the day and the girls had so much fun being apart of Aleisha’s day! We wanted to share with you all what is used to create these beautiful shaped Wedding hairstyles.  Every girls has to cheat a little!  Using hair paddings and hairpieces can really help in creating the perfect look.  Paddings are used to create a beautiful shape and also to give support, particularly if you are having a heavier veil.  Hairpieces are wonderful if you don’t have quite enough hair to wrap around the bottom of the mould.  At the Powder Room we allow double the time on your Wedding trial day to chat through your look ideas and work out the best way for you to create that amazing Wedding day look!

Powder Room stylists looked after the beautiful Ruby a few weeks ago, when Ruby booked in with FOURZEROZEROFIVE Photography in New Farm for a Get Gorgeous session, which included hair ,make up and a photography session in our intimate new Farm studio…such a nice present for the person your love or even more wonderful for yourself!

We get asked a lot, almost every week  the question “are you experienced with Asian Wedding make up”, and yes we are!!  Powder Stylists look after many different nationalities, check out our “Real Bride” Gallery images on our website.

One of our favourite Half- Asian Celebrities is the gorgeous Kimora, in all her Fabulosity!  Mixed race people are so beautiful!!

Kimora always carries around two different eyeliners, the liquid is for above the eye and the pencil is for inside in the eye.  Kimora rarely uses the pencil unless she is going out, if you put liquid liner on during the day and then add pencil to the inner rim at night it glams it up!

Lucy Liu is another Asian beauty with the most perfect celebrity make up. For Asian skin always use a concealer and foundation that has yellow tones.  Pink and Coral tones work best for Blush.  For a natural looking eye, it is best to use brown and neutral colours.  Start by using a medium brown shade over the entire lid and then using a shimmery darker brown or mocha in the crease.  Apply the eyeliner with a contour brush and widen the eyeliner as you go out to the edges of the eye.

Jody and Sarah Jane looked after Emily’s Wedding yesterday at Stradbroke Island and the girls really enjoyed the day.  WE really do have the best job, being able to work in such lovely environments.  Emily has been living in the UK and this was part of Emily’s email to us just before she arrived.


“OMG I CANNA wait for the heat! I am doing sun dances everyday.  So I’m praying for hot baking days! BRING ON THE SUNNNNNNNNN!!”….well it was the most beautiful day and here is a few snaps from the day that Jody took on her iphone and emailed to us, such an instantaneous world we live in!

Kayla and Sarah looked after Simone’s Wedding late last year for her Wedding  hair and make up and we were so excited to see Simone’s feature on Polka Dot Bride!


One of Sarah’s favourite make up products that she used on Simone was the Laura Mercier Illuminating tinted Moisturiser, a lightweight sheer buildable foundation formula, that delivers a youthful radiant finish.  Great mixed in with more coverage foundations, for example use the fuller coverage foundations through the T zone and then use a sheerer foundation in other areas.  Quite often when we do our own foundation, we don’t get the evenness that a make up artist can, so this alone is what can make you feel that coverage when a make up artist applies can be too much!!!  This is a great way to get the still have the coverage needed and still feel like you!!
