Golden Globes 2010 Hair & Make up

Monday, February 1st, 2010

The Award season is upon us, which means lots of celebrity spotting and gorgeous red carpet hair and make up to revel in!!  The hair seemed to be more casual and less done this year at the Golden Globes. We are finding that hair for Weddings is more relaxed then ever before. To achieve this softer look we always ask our brides if they would prefer the styles to be sprayed a lot initially or sprayed so that it looks nice and soft and then to have a can of spray on hand and to touch up during the day.

This year at the Golden Globes we saw hair that was soft and chic with sculpted waves and soft voluminous updos. Rose Byrnes waves were picture perfect, adding a modern edge with her vintage hair clip. Check out
Powder Room’s store for gorgeous jewellery to accessorise.  Julia Roberts blonde boho waves were soft and relaxed.  We also loved Cameron Diaz’s sleek upstyle, softly pulled back off the face to emphasis her striking red lips.

Sandra Bullock Wavy updo looked relaxed and soft. The side part is undone and blends into the side waves. Sandra’s make up had flushed cheeks and soft sultry purples and defined liner on the eyes really worked well with her gorgeous dress.

Nicole Kidman’s natural auburn hair colour was amazing against her porcelain complexion.  Her hair was swept into a side chignon exuding hollywood glamour and the look showed that even the movie stars have a few bits that fall out of their hairstyles, making the look more natural.

As for Jennifer Anniston, come on, can’t you think of another hairstyle choice, it’s the same every year!!  Courtney Cox, on the other hand looked amazing!!  The loose undo, with a centre part and long undone tendrils really showed up Courtney’s eyes.

Gone were the smokey, sultry eyes this year, replaced with soft, subtle, pale shimmering tones, paired with a perfect pink pout. Looks we loved were Kare Hudson, Marion Cotillard, Drew Barrymore and Emily Blunt.

2009 Oscars Best Hair & Makeup

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Wow, what a night!! The 2009 Oscars was an evening of amazing updo’s, shiny boudoir waves, sleek soft buns and soft undone chignons. Every year we can’t wait to see what the stars look like on the red carpet and The Powder Room’s annual collection is inspired from evenings like these. Wedding hair and Make up has never been so sexy, feminine and soft.

We just loved Angelina Jolie’s soft romantic long curls. The half updo created the most amazing profile. Angelina’s soft French nude look make up eluded feminine simplicity with her signature eyeliner being the focus of the look.

Amanda Seyfried’s gorgeous soft waves, had the most amazing shine. The perfect hair for this look is highlighted blonde hair with a slight natural wave and the weight of long hair. When choosing a hairstyle it looks even more amazing if you have chosen a style to suit your hair type.

To create Frida Pinto’s beautiful hairstyle that looks so easy and comfortable to wear, shiny hair is a must. Hot rolling the hair for preparation, then brushing thoroughly through and loosely pinning the back to one side. Leave out a section on top, gently tease and pin back of the face. Perfect for the grown out fringe.

Kate Winslet’s Grace kelly inspired hair style was the type of style that you either loved or just didn’t. From the back we think it looked amazing, the moulded texture, wave and flawless finish was elegant. In choosing this hairstyle be sure that your stylist gets the balance right or it could end up looking too wide at the back of the hairstyle.

Marion Cotillard’s sleek French Twist is so classic, a style that will never date in your Wedding day photo’s. A little tip if wearing a veil, the veil would need to be worn high on the head. Why not try a fascinator!!

Rachel Wood looks chic and sophisticated. Perfectly coiffured and looks amazing on a redhead!!
