2009 Oscars Best Hair & Makeup

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Wow, what a night!! The 2009 Oscars was an evening of amazing updo’s, shiny boudoir waves, sleek soft buns and soft undone chignons. Every year we can’t wait to see what the stars look like on the red carpet and The Powder Room’s annual collection is inspired from evenings like these. Wedding hair and Make up has never been so sexy, feminine and soft.

We just loved Angelina Jolie’s soft romantic long curls. The half updo created the most amazing profile. Angelina’s soft French nude look make up eluded feminine simplicity with her signature eyeliner being the focus of the look.

Amanda Seyfried’s gorgeous soft waves, had the most amazing shine. The perfect hair for this look is highlighted blonde hair with a slight natural wave and the weight of long hair. When choosing a hairstyle it looks even more amazing if you have chosen a style to suit your hair type.

To create Frida Pinto’s beautiful hairstyle that looks so easy and comfortable to wear, shiny hair is a must. Hot rolling the hair for preparation, then brushing thoroughly through and loosely pinning the back to one side. Leave out a section on top, gently tease and pin back of the face. Perfect for the grown out fringe.

Kate Winslet’s Grace kelly inspired hair style was the type of style that you either loved or just didn’t. From the back we think it looked amazing, the moulded texture, wave and flawless finish was elegant. In choosing this hairstyle be sure that your stylist gets the balance right or it could end up looking too wide at the back of the hairstyle.

Marion Cotillard’s sleek French Twist is so classic, a style that will never date in your Wedding day photo’s. A little tip if wearing a veil, the veil would need to be worn high on the head. Why not try a fascinator!!

Rachel Wood looks chic and sophisticated. Perfectly coiffured and looks amazing on a redhead!!

Real Bride – Kim Blanco’s Wedding Day

Monday, October 26th, 2009

We love to hear back from our bride’s after their big day. To know that we made them feel so gorgeous on the most special day of their lives really does give us a rush :)

I wish to sincerely thank you for the wonderful job you did with my wedding hair and makeup, it was just beautiful. It made the day all that much more relaxed to know that I was in the hands of true artists! – Kim Blanco

Kate Dorney’s Wedding Day

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Kate and her bridal party looked absolutely stunning on the big day. The theme was simple and elegant which they pulled off perfectly. Karen had looked after Kate’s sister, Anna’s Wedding a few years ago, so when Kate became engaged, she knew exactly where she wanted to come to be pampered on her special day.

Kate wanted a very soft, relaxed curl to her hair with the front pieces swept off her face and gently pinned back. Kate’s bridesmaids had a very classic, elegant upstyle which sat softly at the nape of the neck. To achieve the bridesmaid’s hairstyles Karen used hair moulds to give the style security and a lovely shape.

Studio Impressions captured the day beautifully as you can see from the photos below.

Kasey’s Wedding Day Hair & Makeup

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Not only do our brides experience the emotions and excitement on their Wedding day but we also get to share the morning with them and join in with the excitement of making them all look gorgeous on the day. One of our talented Powder Room hairstylists Bridgette, emailed through to us some pictures of our Brisbane bride, Kasey’s Wedding hair. We thought we would like to share some of our memories of Kasey’s special day on the 15th August this year…..

I arrived for an early start of 5am, to be greeted by Kasey’s Vietnamese family. A tea ceremony was one of the traditions prior to the Wedding ceremony. Their home was decorated in traditional Vietnamese style with lots of red, yellow and gold paper lanterns for good luck. Mum was very kind offering traditional sweet Vietnamese coffees. Kasey has the most beautiful long, thick shiny hair a dream to upstyle. A very happy bride no pre Wedding nerves. The bridesmaids wanted a more modern look with a braid in the front twisted up through the back. What a beautiful, very warm and welcoming family. It was such a pleasure to look after their Wedding day. Kasey’s Wedding updo really looked amazing with her beautiful dress. It was a pleasure to be a part of their special day.

Dominica’s Beautiful Day

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Karen had the pleasure of looking after the hair and makeup for Dominica, her Mum and Sister on Dominica’s Wedding day as they chose to come in to our New Farm Studio to be pampered.

When Dominica came in for her trial, she was concerned, as she thought that she didn’t have enough length in her hair to create the look she was after. However Karen worked her magic and used a hair padding and two hairpieces to create Dominica’s amazing look! The padding and the hair pieces were added at the nape of the neck. We just loved this soft romantic style.

Dominica was thrilled with the result:

Dear Karen and The Girls at The Powder Room,

Thankyou for creating such beautiful hair and makeup for myself, my sister and mother on my Wedding Day. The entire experience leading up to and on the day was so fantastic and you and your team were always so patient, professional and also very down to earth. We all received so many compliments on the day, especially my hairstyle! Everything was exactly how I imagined, and I sincerely appreciate how much you listened to my ideas. Karen, you have a beautiful team and I wouldn’t hesitate recommending your business.

Warmest Regards,

Dominica

P.S. Hope you enjoy the pictures that show off your amazing talents!! Pete, my husband was especially blown away!!

Girls Night Out

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

You’re always guaranteed lots of laughs and a good time when our stylists get together for a night out, and our Confessions of a Shopaholic outing did not disappoint!

We booked out a cinema at the Blue Room in Rosalie and settled in for 2 hours of hilarity! We all especially loved the dancing scene with the fan!! We’ve posted a link to it below for a good chuckle.

The evening ended all to soon, and we’re all looking forward to the next night out… Maybe the second Twilight movie in November! :)

B105 Naked Wedding – Pampered by The Powder Room

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Well, what a morning it was! We were all up at 3am to be at the Stamford Plaza by 4:15am to beautify Ellie and her bridesmaids.

Ellie looked as lovely as ever and was surprisingly calm with just a few pre-wedding jitters. Ellie came and met with us yesterday and had a chat about how she would like her hair and makeup to look on the day. As everything was organised in such a whirlwind, there was no time for a trial, however Ellie, Colleen, Sam and Julie were so happy and easygoing and were happy for us to create our magic.

Ellie wanted her hair to be up off her neck but very soft incorporating some curl and her veil to be worn underneath. The girls used Sunscience hair products in the hair which were great for shine and hold. Ellie’s makeup was also very soft with pink golds and a little depth added with a subtle charcoal. Being a beautician, Ellie’s skin was just beautiful so Sarah gave her a light foundation coverage making her skin look glowing and luminous. Ellie wore The Powder Room lips with love lipstick in Miss Amore and lipgloss in Pink Champagne. Of course false lashes were applied – every bride needs long luscious lashes!

Tracie and Elissa then had to make their way over to Gianni’s Portside to look after Jessica Mauboy’s hair and makeup. Jessica sang for The Victorian Bushfire Appeal  last night, so she only arrived in Brisbane early this morning. By the time she arrived at Gianni’s Tracie and Elissa only had 25 minutes with her for hair and makeup. Both girls said that Jessica was absolutely lovely, very friendly and down to earth. Jessica sang for the bride and grooms first dance (Ellie in her beautiful wedding gown and Phil in a handsome looking tux).

Camilla wasn’t left out this morning either as Kristi was at the B105 studios to do her hair and makeup at 4:30am too.

Overall a fantastic morning was had by all. What a way to say I Do!!

avatarHello Girls at the Powder Room,
I just wanted to send a quick email thanking you for your help with my wedding on the 10th December 2011. It was the most perfect day (despite the rain). We had Bernie come out to do our makeup. She did an amazing job and we were all incredibly happy with our makeup! So a HUGE thankyou to Bernie - our wedding would not have been the same without her there to beautify us all!
